New Canadians to celebrate NCFD 150 at the CBC (Toronto, ON)

March 31, 2017

New Canadians are being invited to experience the feel-good comedy BREAKAWAY at the CBC Atrium in downtown Toronto for National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150)! This event is going to be held during the night of April 19, 2017 to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday, and is sure to be a truly amazing experience for all involved.

Before the screening there will be a short introduction by The Honourable Eleanor McMahon, MPP, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport. McMahon will then introduce a very special guest — the writer and star of the film, Vinay Virmani!

The talented and eloquent Virmani will be take part in a Q&A discussion before BREAKAWAY starts. The audience will have the chance to ask him questions, get a photo with him, and possibly win prizes!

BREAKAWAY is a cross-cultural story about discovering who you are and following your dreams. Rajveer Singh (Virmani) is struggling to balance the wishes of his traditional Sikh family and his own true passion for hockey. This film is a heartwarming, action-filled comedy, bringing a little bit of Bollywood to Canada’s favourite sport.

REEL CANADA is a dedicated non-profit organization that presents homegrown films to audiences of New Canadians year-round as part of our “Welcome to Canada” programme. We’re very excited to be including this important audience in our NCFD 150 celebrations for the third year in a row, thanks to our continuing partnership with CBC Toronto.
