National Canadian Film Day 150 (NCFD 150) will bring the party to Winnipeg in a big way! Over 1200 guests will settle into the Centennial Concert Hall for a screening of the hometown production, LOVESICK. This NCFD 150 event is a partnership between Movie Nights Across Canada, Manitoba Film & Music, and Telefilm Canada. It will be hosted by Winnipeg MP Jim Carr and MLA Rochelle Squires, who serve as the federal Minister of Natural Resources and provincial Minister of Sport, Culture & Heritage, respectively.
LOVESICK sold out repeated showings when in premiered in Winnipeg back in January, so this will be a high-demand event. There will be red carpet appearances from some of the film’s talent including stars Jacob Tierney (THE TROTSKY, LAURENCE ANYWAYS) and Ali Tataryn (IFEEL). And Winnipeg indie rock darlings Royal Canoe (whose keyboardist Matt Schellenberg wrote and recorded the music for the film) will be performing after the show!
LOVESICK is the story of a 33-year old man who turns to therapy to help him put his crumbling life back together. Stuck between pining for his ex-girlfriend and unable to commit to his new flame, Dash is being forced inevitably closer to a choice that will change his life and his future forever. But does he even know what he wants in life? LOVESICK is the debut film from Winnipeg writer/director Tyson Caron. It was produced by Kyle Irving and stars Jacob Tierney, Jessica Paré, Ali Tataryn and Jay Baruchel. Telefilm Canada called it “a quintessentially Winnipeg film” and Carole Vivier of Manitoba Film & Music said the film is “truly a love letter to Winnipeg, and also to the incredible talent found here.”
We look forward to sharing this exciting NCFD 150 event with film lovers in Winnipeg!
