Beyond the North

Director: Hugo Latulippe Year: 1999 Run Time: 52min

This NFB documentary boldly explores French Canadian cultural identity through an unusual portrait of Réal Bérard – a passionate painter, sculptor, cartoonist and cartographer – and a proud descendant of the "coureurs de bois". His trip north following the path of the Voyageurs takes him takes him to the boundary of Lac Rendez-vous, the dividing point for Voyageurs who stayed with the Indigenous people of the region and those who headed back South.
