Canada’s Oscar submission for 2020 follows the story of Isabelle (Anne Dorval), a grieving mother who travels to Vietnam to meet the birth mother (Leanna Chea, in a Canadian Screen Award-nominated performance) of her recently deceased adopted daughter. Together the two women help each other through the grieving process while learning about each other’s cultures.

Jean-Philippe Duval’s visually stunning and touching film was nominated for five Prix Iris including for Best Actress (Dorval), and winning for Cinematography.
