Director Jeff Chiba Stearns' (One Big Hapa Family, Yellow Sticky Notes) documentary unveils the frustration and desperation of people who are waiting for a suitable match for a bone marrow donor. Unlike blood donations, which are generally suitable for anyone of the same blood type, bone marrow transplants require a close genetic match. Multiracial blood cancer patients with complex genetics must draw from an extremely small pool of suitable donors. Skilfully incorporating his trademark animation with the stories of those afflicted, Chiba Stearns lets us know what we can do to address this increasingly critical situation in cancer treatment.
